5 Essential SEO Tips and Techniques for Your Website

There is a rumor going around that SEO is dead – that search engine optimization is a crapshoot that’s not worth the investment. Well, the truth is that SEO isn’t dead - far from it. In fact, optimizing your site for the web and search engines is more important than ever. There are billions of websites on the web and if you want to stand out from the crowd, you want to make sure your site is optimized with certain keywords, links and other anchors that allow the search engines to crawl your site, deem it relevant and raise it to the top of the rankings. Here are five essential SEO tips and techniques for your websites.

  1. Don’t over optimize. One of the most important SEO tips is that you should never over optimize. It is actually quite easy to over optimize. For instance, if your blog has an over abundance of automatically generated blog posts, the search engine bots will crawl the content and deem it irrelevant or even unreadable, which can hurt your ranking. Moreover, if you crowd keywords and links, you may get a penalty that can push you even further back in the search engine rankings.
  2. Be patient. It is also important to know that optimizing your site takes time. When you implement an SEO campaign, you probably aren’t going to see results the next day. It could take about three to four weeks to see results. Why does it take so long? The reason why the SEO process is so slow is because it takes the bots a while to crawl a particular site for relevancy. This is why you want to patiently focus on your SEO campaign for multiple months – it should really be an ongoing process.
  3. Make sure your site is updated. Many sites are still using old-fashioned platforms and coding languages. Some websites haven’t even updated their content management platform. The SEO bots will look at this and think your site is older or isn’t relevant anymore. Plus, if you are using an older script language, the bots may not be able to crawl your site, which can also hinder your optimization efforts. Ideally, you want your site to be lightweight and coded with the newest script language.
  4. Analyze relevant keywords. By now, you probably know that keywords can help boost your standing on the web. However, many people don’t know exactly how keywords work. The search engine bots have gotten so advanced that they can tell if keywords are relevant or not, so you want to analyze and gather a list of keywords that rightfully pertain to the content on your site. After you have this list, you can start implementing these keywords into the backend of your website.
  5. Build a hyperlink architecture. On top of everything, you want to make room for plenty of hyperlinks. Link building is important, because it increases the relevancy of your website and traffic to your website. When you do build links, you want to make sure the links are legitimate, because if they aren’t, you could get flagged. In the end, a single penalty can send your website to the very back of the search engines, which is the last place you want your business to be.
